Wisdom from the Tang Dynasty: The Key Excerpts from the Forest of Ancient Books
The Key Excerpts from the Forest of Ancient Books (“Governing Principles of Ancient China” or the “Qunshu Zhiyao”) was the result of a major scholastic project implemented by the famous Tang Emperor Taizong. His officials combed through thousands of years of cumulative wisdom and works of philosophy, jurisprudence, ethics and life aphorisms to select passages most conductive to good governance and wise life choices.
With this knowledge, he was able to create litmus tests to assess the compentence and moral character of civil service hires, increase managerial efficiency, reform his finances, avoid social decay, decrease crime, and promote good human relations and diplomatic engagement.
The wisdom contained herein has great value to even individuals, as well as owners, directors or managers of businesses and organisations of any size.
Fortunately, the Hwadzan Pure Land Association of Taipei, a non profit educational society founded by Master Chin Kung (1927–2022), has generously established a program to distribute globally Books and Dharma items free of charge (with even international shipping covered by them). Among those free items are the only existing three English volumes of the Qunshu Zhiyao (each containing 360 key passages), and four hanging calligraphy scrolls (each with a key passage written in calligraphy alongside the printed English translation).
Individuals may apply for 30 free items every two weeks, but institutions are not limited. Because of Lunar New Years and the Taipei Book Fair (HWADZAN Stall B423), processing will be delayed until Feb 9.
